We’re excited to announce a groundbreaking initiative that aims to make a lasting impact on our environment and well-being of our communities in South San Francisco!
Through a generous $600,000 grant from GreenLatinos Trees in Your Community Grant, Rise South City and the City of South San Francisco are launching a three-year extension of their Tree Canopy Pilot Project — which will provide a vital effort to enhance urban tree canopy and improve air quality in the South San Francisco neighborhoods that need it most.​
Why This Work Matters?
The City of South San Francisco has one of the lowest urban tree canopy coverages in all of San Mateo County. As we strive to combat urban heat and improve air quality, this initiative will focus on increasing urban tree canopy specifically for historically underserved communities that experience the harshest impacts of climate change and environmental injustice.
Our goal is to increase tree canopy cover by up to 7% by planting at least 700 trees and maintaining tree canopy survival rate in areas suffering from high pollution and limited green spaces, thereby creating healthier, more vibrant neighborhoods for all.
